The main reason behind our "get healthy" attitude is that we are going on vacation in May . We are going to South Carolina to sit by the pool {and golf}. We think that vacation is better if you go in feeling healthy and happy.
My dad was the first one to draw my attention to an app called My Fitness Pal {he has it on his iPad, which if you know my dad, is the best thing ever}. And its been super helpful with our "get healthy" resolution.
You track the calories of the food you eat by entering information one of two ways:
- scan bar codes and the app will pull up the nutritional values
- enter the info into a search bar and chose from the list
The app is super accurate and has most food items {even things like Panda Express entrees or mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or homemade chicken fingers}. You can also enter other useful things such as amount of water you drink per day or the exercise you did during a day.
So far I have liked using the app, the only downside is knowing the calorie count of my favorite things:
- Cafe Rio Grilled Chicken Salad - with everything = 1,115 calories
- Dr Pepper bottled soda = 250 calories
- Ben and Jerry's Phish food ice cream = 280 calories for 1/2 cup
Knowing the calories = guilt trip every time I have a craving!
Alex doesn't like it as much, he always says "I can't believe you are making me do this". But he will thank me when we are in Hilton Head and he is turning heads by looking so good!
Do any of you use the My Fitness Pal app? Have you guys seen results?
