Ikea Hack

Last night I was getting the itch to go to Ikea {since I haven't been there in a while, I was having withdrawals} and as I was walking along the aisles, I thought about how I had just put a side table in our living room and I wasn't loving the lamp that we had.  So I spent a lot of time browsing through the lighting section and picked out my favorite.

After a lot of thought and a quick trip to Micheals, I decided that I was going to do an Ikea Hack {a fancy way of saying I was going to paint my Ikea Lamp}

Once I was home I gathered all my supplies and got to work

I started the project with the idea that I was going to paint stripes, but after attempting to tape stripes on a round lamp, I gave up and settled on polka dots

I got out a scrapbook stencil and painted my little heart out

After I let it dry, I did some touch ups and then let it cure overnight

And here is the final product!

Its not perfect but for my very first DIY project I'd say its pretty good! I'm thinking I might want to fill in the clear space but I'm not sure {thoughts?}

Lamp Base: $15.00
Lamp Shade: $9.99
Paint: $2.99
Brushes: $1.49
Tape: $3.00
Project Total: $42.50 {aprox}

  1. Cute! You can put stuff in there for the seasons. So, maybe for Halloween fill it with candy corn. Christmas you could fill it with green and red candy. Valentines could be conversation hearts. Looks like it might be hard to clean though..so maybe those won't work. :(
